Zard Prime

Overview:
The homeworld of the Zard and Modrons. Every part of the planet’s surface is covered with either ocean or artificial structures.

Geology:
The planet is covered by approximately 70% ‘cyberscape’ and 30% water. The continental pattern suggests natural formation, or mimicry of natural formations.

The ‘cyberscape’ is a continuous expanse of artificial structures. Beneath the surface and surface structures, are layer after layer of basement levels and artificial caverns. These appear to be multiple joined sectors with differing designs, forming a tapestry across the continents rather than one continuous design.

No off-world visitors have explored deeply enough to discover if there is a conventional continental mass beneath the cyberscape or if the cyberscape extends to the core of the planet. The presence of oceans suggests conventional continental foundation of the planet, as sealing artificial enclosures against the water pressure (increasing with depth) would become increasingly difficult. Conversely, lower levels could be flooded.

Ecology:

It appears that the Modrons form the entirity of Zard Prime’s ecology. All aspects of ecology are handled, if haphazardly, by Modrons, who also serve as the primary technology of the Zard (other than the bodies of the Zard themselves). This includes metabolisation of dead Zard and Modrons, clearing of debris and other ‘nutrient’ sources, serving as tools and energy storage for Zard, providing light for visitors and Zard that require it, serving as respiratory equipment for visiting biological species, and many more.

Modrons appear to either mimic technology they have individually seen (or heard described), or items from a shared racial memory. This raises the interesting questions “Why did ”/wikis/modrons" class=“wiki-page-link”>Modrons know the biological requirements of the first visitors?" and “How does the ”/wikis/Modron/new" class=“create-wiki-page-link”>Modron racial memory function, and how is it updated with new designs?"

History

The Zard have been fighting a civil war since first contact. What little information has been forthcoming from the Zard indicates there are four major factions, but not why they are fighting or when the war began.

The four known factions are:
